In most building projects, MEP disciplines are planned in detail while digital infrastructure is reduced to a few cameras and access points on a drawing. The result is buildings that cannot support modern connectivity, security or smart systems without costly rework.

Digital infrastructure behaves like other building systems: it needs space, pathways and power planned in advance. Deciding late means compromising on placement, capacity and expandability — or paying to reopen finished work.
What Should Be Assessed
Key items: a properly located and conditioned technical room; risers and pathways for fiber and cabling; entrance facilities for telecom providers; structured cabling per floor; Wi-Fi coverage design; CCTV, intercom and access control planning; parking systems; and spare capacity for future technologies.
A Practical Approach
